STATEMENT FROM MOVE BELLEVUE FORWARD REGARDING APPROVAL OF THE
EAST LINK MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING AND RECORD OF DECISION

BELLEVUE - Move Bellevue Forward applauds the Bellevue city council's approval of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sound Transit, an agreement which paves the way for both entities to move forward on a collaborative partnership that will shape light rail to the Eastside.

This step is a milestone in a long and difficult process which will finally allow Bellevue citizens to see true progress on a system they approved in 2008. Not only does the agreement encourage cooperation between Bellevue and Sound Transit, it also helps fund a grade-separated downtown tunnel and ensure sufficient mitigation measures to protect our neighborhoods.

We similarly applaud the Federal Transit Administration's issuance of the project's Record of Decision, which allows Sound Transit to move East Link into final design. Following Bellevue's approval of the MOU, these actions represent a significant step forward in reaching a sustainable and vibrant future for Bellevue citizens.

Move Bellevue Forward is a non partisan, grassroots, city-wide coalition that supports responsible implementation of light rail in Bellevue and supports the vision set forth in the Downtown and the Bel-Red plans. It includes more than 160 members representing neighborhoods throughout the city of Bellevue.
