STATEMENT FROM MOVE BELLEVUE FORWARD REGARDING SOUND TRANSIT'S
ADOPTION OF THE FINAL EAST LINK ALIGNMENT

BELLEVUE - Move Bellevue Forward is pleased by action from the Sound Transit Board in adopting a final alignment for the East Link project last Thursday.  The Board selected B2M (Bellevue Way/112th) and the C9T downtown tunnel as the final route through Bellevue.

The C9T tunnel is approximately $300 million more than budgeted by Sound Transit and its selection as the final route would be contingent on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) being agreed upon and signed by both the City and Sound Transit to share the cost.

The Sound Transit Board has been very clear during their deliberations that they will not move forward with a downtown tunnel if a MOU cannot be agreed upon by October 25.  The next step for the City of Bellevue is to approve a term sheet that outlines the preliminary agreement to fund the tunnel and will serve as the basis for the MOU.

Move Bellevue Forward strongly encourages continued support to adopt the term sheet and move forward with an agreement between the City and Sound Transit. If the City fails to sign the term sheet, it is likely that negotiations will halt and and an at-grade alignment in downtown will be selected, which may potentially lead to litigation from the City.  We therefore continue to support collaboration by all parties to ensure light rail to Bellevue is moving forward.

Move Bellevue Forward is a non partisan, grassroots, city-wide coalition that supports responsible implementation of light rail in Bellevue and supports the vision set forth in the Downtown and the Bel-Red plans. It includes more than 160 members representing neighborhoods throughout the city of Bellevue.
